Other Choreographic Work

A further selection of work created and directed by Tobiah in collaboration with contributing artists.

La Loba

La Loba was developed with the support of a residency at Derida Dance Centre in Sofia, Bulgaria.

The work was based on the book Women Who Run with the Wolves and explored the archetype and journey of a woman in a world that sometimes supports, and sometimes takes from her.

La Loba was a fully interactive work with the audience deciding the pace of the piece and directly influencing and interacting with the performer.

Splash Mob

Splash Mob was created with the support of Splash Adelaide and the Adelaide City Council and saw a group of contemporary dancers and circus and parkour artists come together to create a flash mob.

Uniquely, the flash mob was set off by a passer-by deciding to ride a setup bike which powered a record player and sound system to play the music for the flash mob.

Where the World Things Are…

Where the World Things Are… was an experimental structured improvisation performance that sought to unpack individuality by responding in-depth to pre-set research rules and scenes.

The work was created in collaboration with the dancers at Sydney Dance Company’s Pre-Professional Year in 2023.

Dissolution

Dissolution was created on the students at Adelaide College of the Arts in 2016.

It explored the control of one over a group, and what happens when that person’s power is overthrown and the rules-based order becomes unstuck.

Last Dance

Last Dance was a work made for Australian Dance Theatre’s bushfire fundraiser.

The work brought together a large group of emerging artists to perform a purely choreographic piece based around rhythm.

Hammer

Hammer was developed as part of Australian Dance Theatre’s World’s Smallest Stage series during the pandemic.

Hammer looked at the journey of an individual through prolonged and repeated movements that were driven by the experimental sounds created live on a piano.

The Joining

The Joining was a work developed in Brussels, Belgium as part of a creative residency at Danscentrumjette.

The work explored ritual and ritual practice, focussing on the metaphorical death and rebirth of a member of the group.

In Absence Of

In Absence Of was Tobiah’s first work after graduating from training at Adelaide College of the Arts. It explored the interactions between three men, each who had a different relationship to a woman who had passed away.

In Absence Of was developed and performed in Adelaide.
